As tourism is a top industry in  Florida it is important to recognize the influence it has on our state. The following are key tourism numbers indicating our state's progress in the tourism industry.

 

  • Did you know that preliminary numbers show that an estimated 82.5 million people visitedFlorida 2008? That's more than the population ofNew York,California and Texas combined.

 

  • Did you know taxable spending in tourism totaled $65 billion in 2007? If you place 65 billion dollar bills end-to-end they would circle the world 247 times.

 

  • Did you know about 1,007,000 people are directly employed in travel related jobs? That’s 7 jobs for every 2007Florida high school graduate.

 

  • Did you know that a 1% increase of visitors to the state generates approximately $39 million in a year? That is more than a dollar a second.

 

In 2007, tourism spending (tourism/recreation taxable sales) was $65 billion.

1999 - $47.2 billion

  • In 2007, total state sales tax revenue from tourism was $3.9 billion.
