Nerissa Serrano-Okiye currently serves as Martin County’s Tourism Director. She is responsible for the development and implementation of Martin County’s marketing, publicity and promotions campaigns, all designed to stimulate the growth of tourism.
She moved to Martin County from Georgia, where she served as Director of Research for the Georgia Department of Economic Development, the state’s lead governmental organization for promoting, marketing and supporting economic growth. There she was responsible for tracking the success and health of the tourism industry in the State of Georgia. She also acted as a liaison between Georgia’s public, private and industry tourism partners and state efforts.
Nerissa worked with the Georgia Department of Economic Development within the Tourism Division for 13 years. Prior to her appointment with the State, Nerissa worked several years at Swissotel in Atlanta. Before moving to Atlanta, she served as a Special Assistant to the Governor of the United States Virgin Islands. Nerissa has worked within the tourism and hospitality industry for over 21 years.
She served as a past board member for the Southeast Tourism Society and served on the Board of the Southeast Traveland Research Association for numerous years. A native of the United States Virgin Islands and a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, she holds dual bachelor’s degrees in psychology and sociology.
